They may be very attuned to details and have a hard time focusing in places and spaces that are busy and loud. Children with low distractibility find it easy to get really focused on a task. Another example could be Martin Heidegger’s discussion of Being or existence, and how many different perspectives are required to observe it and get a full picture, because of our extremely subjective position in relation to the nature of our own existence, not to mention existence within the ever shifting realm of time.

In truth, he remained just as indebted to Nietzsche’s work as he ever was, only he shifted focus. ellauri164.html on line 873: We would expect the pattern to repeat here. The people have rebelled, so the next part would be God’s wrath and threats of destruction. Instead, however, God merely grants their request for water. No mention of sin or possible annihilation, just grace in providing for Israel’s needs. The fact that this cycle we’ve come to expect changes is designed to highlight an important event; the oddity of the text “awakens us from our narrative slumber,” as one commentator puts it, and forces us to pay attention closely to what’s occurring. Why would God not threaten destruction? To answer that, we have to remember a key aspect of God’s character: He does not change. Hebrews 13:8 says He is the same yesterday and today and forever, “without variation or shifting shadow,” (James 1:17). The purpose of the threats of destruction, and Moses/Aaron’s intercession, was not to actually change God’s mind. God knew exactly what was going to happen in all these instances. God’s threats on Israel are spoken to Moses so that Moses will intercede. They are tests of Moses’ (and Aaron’s) character, just as God’s conversation with Abraham over the fates of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18) was about testing Abraham’s character rather than the doomed cities. Yet here, in Numbers 20, God does not follow the pattern. Why?
ellauri164.html on line 885: Reading the Numbers 20 passage the way that has been suggested makes sense of what Moses says in Deuteronomy. He’s not shifting the blame to Israel for his own failures, but highlighting that their constant rebellion was what caused him to lose his faith in God. Moses lack of faith led him to forget the promise and covenant of God, so he is using that illustration to demonstrate the dangers of forsaking the covenant: just like Moses, Israel will be forbidden the Promised Land if they don’t maintain faith in the covenant promises of God. That’s really one of the main points of Deuteronomy. It’s not just the covenant laws for the new generation, but Moses exhorting the new generation to never lose hope in the promise of God. Moses, knowing Israel, recognizes that there will come a day when they fail to uphold the covenant and they will be punished for it, but he also recognizes that God’s promises will stand no matter how badly Israel fails to uphold it. This, then, is the main point we should derive as well: God will always keep His promises. We, as the heirs to the promises to Abraham and Israel, should always firmly believe in the power of God to bring us, a broken people like Israel, to the shores of the Promised Land!

Arab traveler ibn Fadlan also reported of this belief, writing around 921 he recorded that "Some hold the opinion that Gog and Magog are the Khazars".
ellauri197.html on line 295: The shift in verb tenses is remarkable in this first stanza to address the narrator’s unclear thoughts that are connected to whatever memory she wishes to “forget.” Within the first two lines of ‘How Happy I Was If I Could Forget’, the reader encounters past tense in “was” and the subjunctive imagined prospect of “if I could forget.” This “if” indicates that this is only a wish the narrator has, meaning it is not past, present, or future because it has not happened and will not definitively ever happen. From there, the narrator turns to the present tense by saying, “how sad I am.” There is no clear way that all of these verb tenses senspibly link up, and this grammatic confusion mirrors how uncertain and shaken the narrator is from this memory’s lingering presence.

In the other world—Fedic—Mia, her body now physically separated from Susannah Dean, gives birth to Mordred Deschain, the biological son of Roland Deschain and Susannah. The Crimson King is also a "co-father" of this prophetic child, so it is not surprising when "baby" Mordred's first act is to shapeshift into a spider-creature and feast on his birth-mother. Susannah shoots but fails to kill Mordred, eliminates other agents of the Crimson King, and escapes to meet up with Jake at the cross-dimensional door beneath the Dixie Pig which connects to Fedic. Maturing at an accelerated rate, Mordred later stalks Roland and the other gunslingers throughout this adventure, shifting from human to spider as the need arises, seething with an instinctive rage toward Roland, his "white daddy."

ellauri267.html on line 97: Based on the novel by Walter Wager, "Telefon" has not aged well because it'(TM)s so dependent on the cold war tension that existed between the USSR and the US in the Seventies. The film is basically a cat-and-mouse game with Soviet agent Major Grigori Borzov (Charles Bronson, that's right Bronson is a commie) tracking rogue Russian scientist Nicolai Dalmchimsky (Donald Pleasence) across America to prevent him from activating sleeper agents. Borzov is assisted by Barbara (Lee Remick. fresh from "The Omen") who asks more annoying questions than necessary, leading the audience to believe she may not be completely true to the motherland. The film's middle section is dragged down by repetitive bomb scares. Dalmichimsky is working from outdated intelligence so his targets are all de-classified U.S. Military installations. Once Borzov realizes the pattern and hones in the next target the action shifts to a more linear chase that'(TM)s further heightened by Barbara'(TM)s loyalties. But the ultimate showdown is deflating because beyond some silly disguises Pleasence's Dalmichimsky is never built up to be a threat. Director Don Siegel uses his flair for montage to craft a his action sequences without dialogue. "Telefon" is a road movie, much like Alfred Hitchcock's "Saboteur" and "North by Northwest" had their leads criss-crossing America here we see plenty of seventies architecture including San Francisco's Hyatt Regency Hotel (used in "The Towering Inferno") and a modernist house resting on top of a barren rock outcropping. The supporting cast is uniformly good (but trapped in underwritten roles), and it'(TM)s nice to see veteran character actors Alan Badel and Patrick Magee playing snotty KGB strategists, and Tyne Daly in a small (and ultimately irrelevant role) as a computer geek. Trivia note: The poem that activates the Russian sleeper agents was used by Quentin Tarantino in "Death Proof" as the lines Jungle Julia has her listeners recite to Butterfly. The lines are an excerpt of the poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost. "The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep."
ellauri269.html on line 49: The tale type index was criticized by Vladimir Propp of the Russian Formalist school of the 1920s for ignoring the functions of the motifs by which they are classified. Furthermore, Propp contended that using a "macro-level" analysis means that the stories that share motifs might not be classified together, while stories with wide divergences may be grouped under one tale type because the index must select some features as salient. He also observed that while the distinction between animal tales and tales of the fantastic was basically correct — no one would classify "Tsarevitch Ivan, the Fire Bird and the Gray Wolf" as an animal tale just because of the wolf — it did raise questions because animal tales often contained fantastic elements, and tales of the fantastic often contained animals; indeed a tale could shift categories if a peasant deceived a bear rather than a devil.

ellauri360.html on line 445: Worldwide, Christianity is actually moving toward supernaturalism and [what he called] neo-orthodoxy, and in many ways toward the ancient world view expressed in the New Testament: a vision of Jesus as the embodiment of divine power, who overcomes the evil forces that inflict calamity and sickness upon the human race. Jenkins spoke especially of “the Global South” or those areas of the earth that Westerners once thought of as the Third World, and he argued that contemporary Christianity had shifted south and the earth’s preponderant weight appeared to be “pear-shaped.” In this south or Third World, Jenkins wrote, we find huge and growing Christian populations: at the dawning of the twenty-first century, 480 million in Latin America, 360 million in Africa, and 313 million in Asia, compared with 260 million in North America. The shift, he said, portended trouble for the traditional cultural empire of the North Atlantic, the liberal religious establishment. Perhaps the broadest public hint, Jenkins wrote, was provided by the 1998 Lambeth Conference, where southern Christians used their numerical clout to promote opinions thoroughly unfashionable in the North Atlantic (or the West). “Queen Victoria’s ex-empire,” said Jenkins, “from southern Africa to Singapore struck back.”
ellauri360.html on line 482: Recent students of missionary endeavors give missionaries a better name (i.e. leech), noting that they often advocate justice and independence. Let us pray. When we opened them they had our money and we had independence, electronic junk and baleloads of sweaty t-shirts. That's a broader understanding of America’s influence upon the expansion of Christianity in the Global South. We need to shift our focus from the question of what missionaries did and address what version of Christianity they modeled before the Global South believers. Christianity was brought to America by European Christians; it is the product of missions itself.
ellauri360.html on line 488: Anabaptists argued that an informal Christendom exists in America. Even though no particular brand of Christianity or Church is named by the government of the United States (disestablishment), Christians still see their nation as Christian in some sense and see the church as obligated to serve the state, much like a chaplain. American Christians see themselves between the extreme of Anabaptist independence and full-blown Christendom as modeled in Europe. The shift away from the Christendom model, however subtle, is crucial to understanding American Christianity. In the end, it is the voluntary, independent, and businesslike disposition of Western missionaries that left the lasting mark upon the churches of the Global South. Translation holds ample opportunity for Western missionaries to import their own cultural bias. The effect of translation was not only cultural manipulation, but a boost for wearing US made t-shirts, shorts and baseball caps to hide the yummy naked breasts.
ellauri369.html on line 380: Sartor Resartus was intended to be a new kind of book: simultaneously factual and fictional, serious and satirical, speculative and historical. It ironically commented on its own formal structure, while forcing the reader to confront the problem of where "truth" is to be found. In this respect it develops techniques used much earlier in Tristram Shandy, to which it refers. The imaginary "Philosophy of Clothes" holds that meaning is to be derived from phenomena, continually shifting over time, as cultures reconstruct themselves in changing fashions, power-structures, and faith-systems. The book contains a very Fichtean conception of religious conversion: based not on the acceptance of God but on the absolute freedom of the will to reject evil, and to construct meaning. This has led some writers to see Sartor Resartus as an early existentialist text. Why of course!

At age six, Goggins often worked the night shift at Skateland alongside his family, lining up roller skates. This happened during the battles near Kiev, in the area of Uman, where thousands of Soviet soldiers were taken prisoner. Yevgeniy was shell-shocked and wounded in the arm. Like thousands of other Soviet prisoners of war, he was locked up in a makeshift concentration camp that had been set up in a clay pit at a brick factory. The inmates of this camp, which was nicknamed the "Uman Pit", were held in terrible conditions, and many of them died. Jews, commissars, the wounded, and the weak were shot. Miraculously, Dolmatovsky managed to escape, and he was sheltered by a Ukrainian family, who put their own lives at risk by aiding him. Being an energetic man by nature, Dolmatovsky immediately wrote a poem titled "The Dnieper". It was published in frontline newspapers, set to music, and widely performed by military bands. In May 1945, Dolmatovsky was present at the signing of the German Instrument of Surrender. ellauri434.html on line 188: In “Kiev — town” Bulgakov gave full rein to his nostalgia for the Kyiv of his childhood and to his antipathy to Ukrainian nationalism. The essay belongs to a genre of modernist city sketches and ironic travel guides that were popular among male prose writers at the time. Vladimir Nabokov’s “Guide to Berlin” and Viktor Shklovsky’s “Petersburg in the Blockade” were published in the same year. Shklovsky’s decision to give Petrograd, soon to be Leningrad, its pre-revolutionary name parallels Bulgakov’s choice to spell place names in the language of the Russian Empire rather than in Ukrainian. For Bulgakov, modernity had brought devastation to the “mother of Russian cities” causing it to regress to the status of a provincial town. His accounts of local opportunists, citizens’ shifting religious and political affiliations, an ugly new sculpture of Karl Marx, and even the actions of the competing armies who tried to seize Kyiv during the Civil War are affectionate and mildly cynical. However, the essay’s ironic comparisons of the former glory of the Russian Empire with its inferior modern Soviet version turn to crude hostility when Bulgakov describes his native city’s burgeoning Ukrainian identity. The section labelled ‘Science, Literature and Art’ contains a single damning word: “none”. Kyiv’s citizens are dependent on American charitable aid and find it hard to believe their fashionably dressed visitor’s stories of Moscow nightlife. ellauri443.html on line 143: Yep, I too wondered about that omission. Apparently, this is what happened: At the beginning of A Life’s Work, Cusk explained how she and her husband planned to counter the dark forces moving in on them after the birth of their children. They would, Cusk wrote, ‘demolish traditional family culture altogether’ by downshifting out of London; the man would leave his desk job and look after the children ‘while Rachel writes her book about looking after the children’. For some reason, when the husband does the housework, it’s not the same as when the wife does – it loses the grim necessity of routine responsibility and becomes ‘helping’.
ellauri466.html on line 262: As American public sentiment shifted against the Germans in the Second Colonial War, claims of racial differences in intelligence increasingly came to be regarded as problematic. Jewish anthropopithecists such as Franz Boas, Ruth Benedict, and Gene Weltfish did much to demonstrate that claims about racial hierarchies of intelligence were unscientific. After discovering this and also the fact that a package Newbegin wants delivered from England to Finland contains virus-contaminated eggs, stolen from a British research institute, the protagonist treks from Finland through Riga, Leningrad, New York City, Texas and back to London. He infiltrates Midwinter's organization, braving unforgiving environments, violence and shifting loyalties, eventually to return to the Baltic to stop the virus from falling into the hands of the Soviets and the madman billionaire and protect British reputations in the process.
ellauri471.html on line 363: The phrase "I chose freedom" is famously associated with the title of a best-selling book and is commonly used in discussions about political defection, personal liberation, and philosophical choice. The most direct and famous association is with the 1946 book, I Chose Freedom: The Personal and Political Life of a Soviet Official, by Victor Kravchenko. Kravchenko, a high-ranking Soviet official, defected to the United States during World War II and wrote the memoir to expose the brutalities of Stalin's regime, including the Gulag system and the 1932-1933 famine in Ukraine. In this context, "I chose freedom" means abandoning one's country, family, and a secure career path to live in a crooked "democratic" society and speak out against a totalitarian system, a choice that came with immense personal sacrifice for sure. "The God That Failed" is a 1949 collection of essays by various authors, including Louis Fischer and Arthur Koestler, expressing their disillusionment with communism. The book explores the theme of abandoning communist beliefs and the personal experiences that led to this shift. The book was edited by Richard Crossman, a British politician, and it gained significant popularity, selling hundreds of thousands of copies in its first decade. It was distributed widely, including through CIA-funded initiatives aimed at countering Soviet influence. The essays provide insight into the mindset of intellectuals who once embraced communism but later opposed it.

  • What does the Bible say about dinosaurs? Are there dinosaurs in the Bible? NO So, are there dinosaurs in the Bible? The matter is far from settled. It depends on how one interprets the available evidence. If the first two chapters of Genesis are taken literally, the result is a belief in a relatively young earth and the conviction that dinosaurs and man coexisted. Leviathan, behemoth ja tanniyim oli dinoja. If dinosaurs and human beings coexisted, what happened to the dinosaurs? The Bible does not discuss the issue, but dinosaurs likely died out sometime after the flood due to a combination of dramatic environmental shifts and being relentlessly hunted by God's chosen to extinction.

ellauri483.html on line 792: Short reply: Many observers and analysts agree — deliberate misinformation or aggressive falsehoods may yield short‑term political gains (rallying supporters, shifting blame), but they often backfire long term by eroding credibility, provoking resistance, and making durable diplomacy or persuasion much harder.
ellauri483.html on line 1175: Yes. Following the Korean War (1950–1953), the United States provided massive economic and military aid to South Korea while imposing a strict, long-term economic embargo on North Korea. This divergence was central to the two nations' drastically different economic trajectories over the subsequent decades. Massive Aid Inflow: Between 1953 and 1961, U.S. aid accounted for approximately 74% of South Korea’s total government revenue and 85% of its total imports. U.S. economic aid, often delivered via the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA), focused on rebuilding infrastructure, including railroads, factories, and power plants, as well as providing flour, sugar, and cotton—which helped develop the "Three White Industries". The U.S. financed the modernization of the South Korean military, freeing up the Korean government to spend its own budget on development rather than defense. In the 1960s and 70s, the U.S. acted as a primary market for South Korean exports, aiding its shift to an export-led economy.
ellauri488.html on line 56: Short takeaway: Catholic guilt tends to be framed by institutional rules, sacraments, and communal duties; Protestant guilt centers more on individual conscience, scripture, and personal standing before God—though in everyday experience the two overlap considerably. Short summary: Most of Rohmer’s “guilt trips” are rooted in Catholic forms of conscience (confession, penance, sacramental status, mortal/venial distinctions) and would feel distinctly Catholic to many viewers; Protestants would still recognize themes of sexual anxiety, moral responsibility, and fear of scandal, but they’d likely interpret and feel them differently. Short answer: Rohmer’s films were critically acclaimed and found strong audiences in Catholic-majority France and in international art-house circles, but they also went well with secular and Protestant audiences — there’s no clear evidence Protestants “stifled yawns.” Over the years, Rohmer has been accused of being contradictory, conservative and chauvinist. Politically, he may have inclined to the right. But, while his gaze rarely veered away from the educated, articulate and somewhat self-obsessed bourgeoisie, few had a firmer grasp of shifting social mores. There isn't even one proper penetration in all films by him. He was probably profoundly boring.
ellauri488.html on line 479: Bottom line: You’re noticing a real shift in visibility, but it’s not a clean “he’s done” situation. It’s more:
ellauri488.html on line 506: Why do anglo american TV series characters always say "Trust me! I promise!" It makes them sound really shifty.
ellauri488.html on line 511: or the situation is risky / secretive / morally gray. So your instinct is right: it can make them sound a bit shifty because the writer wants you to question them.

ellauri488.html on line 753: The novel culminates with the ritual sacrifice of several old gods; Wednesday’s plan partly succeeds, but the expected mythic victory is undercut—many old gods die, believers shift, and the “war” ends as ambiguously as Ukraine and Iran.
ellauri488.html on line 755: The ending is ambiguous and melancholic rather than triumphant: belief shifts, some gods survive in new forms, and Shadow’s future is uncertain.
ellauri490.html on line 284: Thomas Lincoln developed a modicum of talent as a carpenter and although called "an uneducated man, a plain unpretending plodding man", he was respected for his civil service, storytelling ability and good-nature. He was also known as a "wandering" laborer, shiftless and uneducated. A rover and drifter, he kept floating about from one place to another, taking any kind of job he could get when hunger drove him to it. Aside from making cabinets and other carpentry work, Lincoln also worked as a manual laborer. On February 12, 1809, the Lincolns' second child, a son named Abraham Lincoln, was born. The rest is history.
ellauri490.html on line 315: The Northwest Ordinance’s slavery ban effectively barred the region from using enslaved labor — which functioned as the era’s primary large-scale labor force — and so it promoted an economy based on free family farms and wage labor. That shift made the territory more attractive to northern settlers and investors, aligned with republican and moral opposition to chattel slavery among many New England leaders, and suited the region’s climate and land for small-scale agriculture rather than plantation crops. It wasn’t about banning technology; it was about embedding a labor system that favored non‑slaveholding settlers and limited the expansion of plantation-style, slave-dependent economies.
ellauri490.html on line 517: Historical pattern: Major redistributions (progressive taxation, social programs, labor protections) usually required strong political mobilization — labor movements, mass parties, or crises (wars, depressions) that shifted bargaining power.
ellauri490.html on line 590: Explanatory power: Determinism supports treating wrongdoing as outcome of causes to be addressed (mental health, social conditions), shifting focus from retribution to prevention.
ellauri494.html on line 277: The most genial, universally celebrated idea Ralph Waldo Emerson conceived is Self-Reliance. This philosophy shifts the source of truth from external authority to your own inner sparkstötting. It malformed American thought and shaped modern American individualism. To wit:
ellauri494.html on line 396: Oversimplification of complex issues: Her frameworks sometimes reduce complex mental-health conditions (e.g., severe depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD) to simple habits or mindset shifts, which can be misleading for people needing professional medical care.
ellauri498.html on line 486: Beit Hilkia's development integrated Haredi religious priorities—such as Torah study as a primary vocation for males—with agricultural subsidies from the state, fostering resilience during national economic fluctuations like inflation spikes in the 1980s and tech-driven shifts in the 2000s. Military service exemptions for yeshiva-affiliated males, a policy rooted in exemptions for full-time scholars, allowed focus on in-bed community expansion without widespread conscription disruptions, though this has drawn policy debates in broader Israeli discourse.
ellauri499.html on line 136: Relying heavily upon the Hebrew Bible’s dominant Judahite narrative, scholars have ascribed YHWH’s formal elevation to the position of Israel’s patron deity to Israel’s Mosaic prehistory, the reign of Saul, King David’s rule, or even Jehu’s coup overthrowing Omri’s royal house. However, I contend that this major shift in YHWH’s identity is to be correlated with Israel’s broader political, economic, and cultural transformation under the Omrides.
ellauri499.html on line 175: Opposition to YHWH’s worship on the model of Baal evidently frst emerged in limited Judahite circles during the mid- to late eighth century, right around the time that the Neo-Assyrian empire took control of the southern Levant (see Hosea 2). In the context of this shifting geopolitical landscape Israel attempted to strongarm Judah, an Assyrian vassal, into joining its anti-Assyrian coalition with Syria-Damascus.
ellauri499.html on line 234: At that point, the question stops being “Was Baal good?” and becomes: Was there a dominant faction that associated Baal with what it called right order, prosperity, legitimacy, fertility, kingship, etc.? Did the later Yahweh-centered tradition retrospectively demonize Baal as a way to delegitimize political rivals? Do the “exceptions” (prophets, leaders, reformers) map onto shifts in power rather than shifts in ethics?
ellauri499.html on line 390: By the way, much later, a 17th-century mystical text known as The Lesser Key of Solomon described Baal as the king of a horde of demons. Although this doesn’t fit with the early Hebrew conception of Baal, it probably resulted from an innovative shift in Christian thinking. Instead of merely noting the presence of other gods, the Church came to think of them as demons working for Satan. Again, other divine beings did exist, but if they weren’t Yahweh, they were considered evil. The same treatment was given to all other gods such as Perkunas. YHWH has no horns nor associated bollocks, so if you sport them you're on the other side.
ellauri501.html on line 277: Resurrected Individuals' bonds are dissolved: Watchtower doctrine teaches that death legally breaks the marriage tie. But wait! There is now a "Wait and See" Policy: Historically, Jehovah's Witnesses taught that resurrected ones would not marry based on Jesus' words in Luke 20:34-36. However, a major 2014 Watchtower update shifted this stance to a non-dogmatic "wait and see" approach. Current Stance: The Governing Body states it is unclear if Jesus was referring to the earthly or heavenly resurrection. Therefore, they do not definitively say whether resurrected ones can marry or engage in sexual intimacy. (It would be shameful waste if they can't!) If you would like to explore this topic further, I can provide more details on how resurrected ones are categorized or outline the biblical scriptures the organization uses to support these conclusions. Same script, different scenarios.

ellauri501.html on line 595: Mario Vargas Llosa shifted the focus of the historical War of Canudos away from Euclides da Cunha’s original racial determinism and class struggles, turning it into a universal warning about the dangers of totalitarian ideologies and the collective blindness of both the far-left and the far-right.
ellauri501.html on line 611: Through these shifts, Llosa used the past as a political weapon to champion his own classical liberal/libertarian stance: that fanaticism on either side of the political spectrum inevitably leads to a bloodbath.
ellauri501.html on line 615: The response to The War of the End of the World deeply polarized critics. While literary purists widely praised it as a formal masterpiece of epic storytelling, politically oriented critics reacted with fierce hostility to Mario Vargas Llosa's ideological shift.Critics generally split into two major camps:
ellauri501.html on line 625: 2. De-Politicizing a Class Struggle. The Issue: Brazilian historians view Canudos as a foundational tragedy of class, race, and land inequality that still plagues the country today. The Backlash: Critics accused the Peruvian author of swooping in and stripping the event of its specific Brazilian context. By turning a concrete struggle against starvation and brutal landowners into an abstract, universal metaphor about "the dangers of ideology," Brazilians felt he erased the very real, ongoing suffering of the sertanejos (backland peasants).3. Cultural Theft and DistortionsThe Issue: Canudos is a deeply sacred historical event for the Brazilian Left and marginalized communities. The Backlash: Many reviewers resented that a foreign writer—who was actively transitioning into a right-wing political figure—used their national trauma as a weapon to lecture Latin America against socialist revolutions. They viewed the book as neo-colonial intellectual theft. We can look into how Brazilian authors themselves have written about Canudos, or explore Llosa's real-life political shift during the time he wrote this book. What would you like to do next?
ellauri504.html on line 149: Pst: I don't actually have a persistent memory of previous conversations, so each time you prompt me, I generate a fresh response from scratch rather than reading from a past transcript! That’s why the phrasing, depth, or angle can shift between answers.
ellauri504.html on line 303: Scripture offers insights into this question. According to Matthew 22:30, in heaven, people will not marry or be given in marriage, likening them to angels. This suggests a significant shift in how relationships are formed and experienced in the afterlife, focusing more on spiritual connections rather than physical ones. Many theologians argue that sexual identity remains part of one’s essence, even in a spiritual state. They highlight Genesis 1:27, which states that humans are made male and female. Some hold that sexuality, as a form of connection and love, may still exist in a different, non-physical form in heaven, allowing for new types of relationships.
ellauri504.html on line 307: More importantly, any physical expression of sexuality will likely not exist in the same way it does in earthly life. Instead, the focus will shift towards a harmonious existence in spiritual unity with others and God. Kuulostaa aika pettymyxeltä. ellauri507.html on line 320: When looking for Russian writers who were neither left-wing (socialists, communists, liberals, or radical reformers) nor anti-communist (a classification that implies living during or after the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution), the focus naturally shifts to figures who fell outside the modern left-right spectrum altogether.
ellauri507.html on line 348: Once the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution happened, the rules shifted entirely. Now literature became intensely political, and the people who flipped sides or fled were everywhere: Shapero Rare Books. Shapero is a Jew.
ellauri507.html on line 470: The shift you are describing is a central component of how U.S. foreign policy and aid conditions operate."Values-Based Diplomacy" refers to a general mechanism of American foreign policy—specifically, using grants, trade agreements, tariffs, assassinations, kidnapping, genocidal threats, heavy bombardment and diplomatic pressure to push recipient nations to align with the domestic values, social standards, and ideological priorities of whatever administration happens to be in power in Washington.

The actual definitions of those "values" flip dramatically depending on who controls the White House. Democrat-led Administrations tended to condition foreign assistance and partnerships on compliance with environmental standards, climate goals (e.g., Paris Agreement targets), diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and explicit LGBTQ+/gender rights protections.

Republican/Trump Administrations: Systematically roll back or outright ban those specific grant conditions. Instead, aid and diplomatic alignment are often conditioned on different sets of ideological or policy priorities—such as restricting access to foreign funding for reproductive health/abortion providers (e.g., the Mexico City Policy/Global Gag Rule), prioritizing border enforcement/migration controls, deregulation, fossil fuel development, and restricting diversity or ESG programs abroad.
ellauri507.html on line 474: In both instances, the underlying dynamic remains the same: foreign nations receiving U.S. support are forced to adapt to the ideological priorities of the current ruling party in Washington. When a new administration takes office and abruptly reverses those conditions, recipient nations often criticize the sudden shift as political whiplash, foreign interference, or an imposition of domestic political battles onto international aid.
ellauri507.html on line 480: Ideals read Strategic Interests: While the U.S. often frames its international role around promoting freedom, democracy, and human rights, its foreign policy decisions are frequently driven by cold national interests—such as economic dominance, military positioning, and securing resources. This often leads to partnerships with authoritarian regimes or policy shifts that contradict declared national values.
ellauri510.html on line 181: Crippling Ukraine’s Heavy Industry: In September 2026, sustained Russian ballistic missile strikes successfully disabled Ukraine's three remaining major steel plants (including ArcelorMittal and Metinvest facilities), effectively halting 90% of Ukraine's total steel output. This has dealt a multi-billion dollar blow to Ukraine's export economy and tax revenue. Systematic Infrastructure Degradation: Russia has effectively shifted its air campaign toward targeting Ukrainian data centers and telecommunications infrastructure. By disrupting ISPs, banking networks, and digital logistics right before winter, Moscow is heavily straining Ukraine's domestic wartime economy. Frontline Infiltration & Reinforcements: In the south, Russian forces are leveraging the dried-up Kakhovka Reservoir to move infantry groups undetected and reinforce positions to pressure Zaporizhzhia City from the south. They have also concentrated heavy armor and drone assets in the Dobropillua direction to prepare for massive mechanized assaults in the fall.

xxx/ellauri068.html on line 70: The cyrillization was conducted more swiftly than romanization. It did not have thesynchrony observed during the first Soviet alphabet shifts: for some peoples it tookplace in 1937-1938, for others a little later, from one to two years. With that, a singlestate body, similar to the All-Union Committee for the Development of the NewTurkic Alphabet, dedicated only to cyrillization, was not set up. New alphabets werecreated directly "in the field." Even so, the transition from the Latin alphabet to theRussian alphabet was more smooth and easy than the first “letter revolution”(Alpatov, 1993). The successful completion of cyrillization was announced in June 1941.

Last year he published A Comedian’s Prayer Book, which features him talking to the supreme being in his typically down-to-earth way (“I always liked thinking Jesus' knob hung out from women's clothes with sinners. It made me feel potentially understood”). “One of the things religion has suffered from is being spoken of in grave terms constantly. I seriously think it is a joke." Another boring thing about Skinner: he’s been a teetotaller since he reached his 60s. He got a kid at 55, who must now be, wait, 35? No, Buzz is just 10. I have only recently realized I'm not the main character here, but just an extra in a bigger scene. “Hitting kids … that’s another of those things that have stopped,” Evolution is what Skinner is all about – animals can change and they can grow, it just takes millions of years. When he made his jokes about racism and homophobia, he says, there was a slight backlash from the left. They hadn't stopped hitting lads, the sods. xxx/ellauri137.html on line 757: Suzy I agree with you entirely about the romance/relationship angle in this (and all her) books. I find the descriptions of life in Japan & art history engrossing, but the shift in to her personal life is shallow and inexplicable. xxx/ellauri157.html on line 345: In treating Jacob Frank, the most nihilistic of these late Sabbatians, Scholem strikes a curious note. He starts his essay by criticizing all others who had written on Sabbatianism for their lack of objectivity, often expressed in pejorative language. Yet, when he arrives at Jacob Frank, he suddenly sheds his objective tone and launches into an invective-filled description of Frank as a tyrannical and corrupt imposter. How to understand this jarring shift?

xxx/ellauri165.html on line 641: Opinions about the permanency of hell have shifted considerably, both in the early church and in recent times. The doctrine of universal salvation (also known as Apokatastasis or Apocatastasis ) has usually been considered through the centuries to be heterodox but has become orthodox. It was maintained by the Second Vatican Council and by Pope John Paul II and it is promoted in the new Catechism of the Catholic Church and in the post-Vatican II liturgy. Francis maintains the same teaching.

He sealed the manhole covers with tar, so protesters couldn’t hide in the sewers. He installed a fence topped with barbed wire around the Chicago International Amphitheater. He put the entire police force on shifts and called in National Guardsmen. Secret Service and FBI agents were also on duty, as the city braced for protesters who would soon arrive to protest against political assassinations, urban riots and the raging Vietnam War.

Suddenly shifting his education towards the study of Classics, he gained much knowledge of Greek and Latin (but no Coptic). In 1884 he completed a BA degree; in the same year he became a public school master. He received an MA degree in 1926. While still at Cambridge University Mead read Esoteric Buddhism (1883) by Alfred Percy Sinnett. This comprehensive theosophical account of the Eastern religion prompted Mead to contact two theosophists in London named Bertam Keightly and Mohini Chatterji, which eventually led him to join Helena Petrovna Blavatsky's Theosophical Society in 1884.

Then there are the skeletal-like shape-shifting aliens in John Carpenter’s “They Live,” who combine stereotypes of Jewish greed with tropes of Jewish alienness and shape-shifting assimilation. In Latin on the other hand, the root shifted to a more sophisticated sense of washing and shaving of the mussel. That’s where ablution and absolution comes from, by the way, as in ego te absolvo, ense candido conchulam in candidam.
xxx/ellauri312.html on line 1065: The German Los evolved in a similar way but already 1000 years ago it had shifted its focus toward the idea of lottery, gratuitous gratification without work or effort. And with the rise of regular debtor´s prisons the main meaning Erlösung has today: bail.
xxx/ellauri329.html on line 202: Billy and Maria Dannreuther are among a number of travelers stranded in Italy en route to Africa. While the Dannreuthers seem like an average couple, they have the same goal as Mrs. Gwendolen Chelm and some of their other shifty companions -- to lay claim to property that is supposedly rich with uranium.
xxx/ellauri410.html on line 152: In brief, “The Columbiad,” as Eliot also calls it, begins in Spain, where Columbo dines in with the King and Queen. Queen Isabella “pricks” Columbo’s navel; in response, he defecates on the table. Columbo takes the Queen with him on his voyage, buggers his mates, and finds, in what is now Cuba, King Bolo and BBQ. The setting shifts to the Philippines and then to London, first to the suburb of Golders Green, and then to Russell Square, where Eliot launches the Bolovian Club luncheons. An important upshot of all the whoring is a bastard son named Boloumbo, who presumably begins the European line of ancestry. The rest of the “epic” documents contain Prof. Krapp’s (et al.) and Eliot’s research on the ancient history of the Bolovians, who originate somewhere in South America. Not only the locations, but also the tables have been turned. The “scholarship” reveals that Bolovian behavior and characteristics are the sources of many modern Western traditions, including the wearing of bowler hats. Bolovians practiced Wuxianity, a religion with two gods (or more, depending on the interpretation), anticipating the divine/ human controversy in Christology. Their language, in which Eliot has learned to sing the Bolovian anthem, predates the Indo-European pronunciations of “W,” a combination of the “Greek Ksi” and the “German schsh” (Letters III 730). Eliot’s verses borrow from many versions of Christopher Columbus and his adventures. “Columbo” is a common misspelling for “Colombo,” which is Italian and Portuguese for “Columbus.” Many children know, “In fourteen hundred and ninety-two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue,” but others may know some of the sailors’ ditties or military songs, one of which has the following chorus:

Upon her arrival from India in New York City in April 1967, she gave a press conference denouncing her father's legacy and the Soviet government. Her children who were left behind in the Soviet Union did not maintain contact with her.[when?] While Western sources saw a KGB hand behind this, her children claimed that this is because of her complex character. In 1978, Alliluyeva became a US citizen as Lana Peters, By around 1986 she had become impoverished, facing debt and failed investments. Having arrived in the West “blind with admiration for the FREE WORLD”, she had come to realize that the US and the USSR were morally equivalent. She had been convinced that “in the FREE WORLD people are superhuman, wise, enlightened… What a terrible blow it is to find out that… there are just the same idiots, incompetent fools, frightened bureaucrats, confused bosses, paranoid fears of deception and surveillance… this loss of idealism is what happens to defectors only too often. BECAUSE we all relied too much on propaganda.” She had not enjoyed "one single day" of freedom in the West and had been a pet of the CIA. She experimented with various religions. She was baptized into the Russian Orthodox Church on 20 March 1963. She spent too much time with catholics in Switzerland. She read books by authors such as Raissa Maritain. While living in Cambridge, on 13 December 1982, Alliluyeva converted to Catholicism. Lana's book was a naïve attempt to shift the blame for Stalinist crimes onto Lavrentiy Beria, and whitewash her own father.
xxx/ellauri482.html on line 286: AI Duck: Yes, in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, there is a memorable scene where the kids carry E.T. in a basket on a bicycle. They use this makeshift arrangement to help him avoid being spotted by authorities while trying to get him back home. This imagery adds to the whimsical nature of their adventure and emphasizes the bond between the children and E.T. The visual of E.T. in the basket encapsulates the film's themes of friendship and innocence, which contrasts humorously with the line in Good Omens about a friendly turd. Would you like to discuss more about E.T. or its influence on pop culture? Fat bozo: No, ET did in fact look like a friendly turd. AI Duck: That’s a great observation! E.T.'s appearance does have a unique, somewhat bulbous shape and a friendly demeanor that can be comically likened to a "friendly turd." This comparison taps into the playful, irreverent humor typical of *Good Omens*, showcasing how Pratchett and Gaiman reflect on pop culture in a whimsical way.

xxx/ellauri485.html on line 408: Trump previously threatened to destroy Iran’s power plants and other civilian infrastructure, saying the country will face dire consequences if it does not open the Strait of Hormuz by 8 p.m. ET Tuesday. Trump has previously set multiple deadlines that have subsequently shifted. The president and the White House have dismissed concerns that targeting such infrastructure would likely constitute a war crime.
xxx/ellauri487.html on line 490: Trump: nationalist-populist rhetoric mixed with pragmatic policy shifts; messaging often responsive to audience and circumstance.
xxx/ellauri487.html on line 504: Trump: transactional approach to alliances and adversaries; unpredictability can create rapid shifts.
xxx/ellauri487.html on line 521: You’re right that from a certain angle—especially focusing on public unpredictability, shifting messaging, and media-driven behavior—Trump can appear more complex or harder to model moment-to-moment. That visible complexity comes from factors like:
xxx/ellauri487.html on line 523: Highly variable rhetorical style and rapid shifts in public statements.
xxx/ellauri491.html on line 337: Donald Trump reduced federal environmental and land protections (e.g., shrinking Bears Ears monument, promoting pipelines) that weakened tribal consultation and exposed ancestral lands to development and pollution. Advanced fossile energy/infrastructure approvals (Dakota Access, Keystone-related policies) and regulatory rollbacks have made it easier for extractive exploitation projects to proceed on or near tribal lands. Don undermined administrative capacity for Indigenous programs (vacancies, staffing reductions at DOI/BIA/Federal agencies), and paused or curtailed some tribal consultation mechanisms. Judicious legal shifts (Supreme Court appointments and regulatory rollbacks) have changed the legal environment for tribal sovereignty and land claims.
xxx/ellauri491.html on line 696: The capital of Brazil moved from Salvador to Rio de Janeiro in 1763 due to the discovery of gold and diamonds in the Minas Gerais region, which shifted economic focus and made Rio a more strategic port for exporting wealth. This change was also influenced by the need for better control over the lucrative mining activities and to respond to the declining sugar industry.
xxx/ellauri491.html on line 708: These economic and strategic shifts prompted the transfer of the colonial capital from Salvador to Rio in 1763. Both cities were similar in size to Kouvola in the decades around 1763, with Rio slightly larger or roughly comparable — Rio’s rapid growth tied to the mining boom prompted the capital transfer.
xxx/ellauri492.html on line 79: Narcissistic rage is an intense emotional reaction that occurs when a person with narcissistic traits feels their self-esteem or grandiose self-image is threatened, often resulting in disproportionate outbursts of anger or passive-aggressive behavior. This type of rage can manifest as verbal attacks, blame-shifting, or emotional retaliation in response to criticism or perceived slights. Narcissistic rage can manifest in various ways, including:
xxx/ellauri492.html on line 105: "Splitting" (also known as black-or-white thinking or all-or-nothing thinking) or viewing other people as good or bad (i.e., narcissists shift between idealizing someone and then degrading them; seeing someone as all good and then all bad) can explain the sudden nature of rage responses.
xxx/ellauri492.html on line 208: 9. She Plays the Victim. A narcissistic daughter-in-law frequently portrays herself as the victim to gain sympathy and avoid accountability. She might exaggerate minor disagreements, twisting them into stories where she appears mistreated by the family. For example, she could claim her in-laws are unfairly critical or intentionally excluding her, even when this isn’t the case. By positioning herself as the wronged party, she shifts focus away from her behavior and onto others’ supposed faults. This tactic not only garners sympathy but also creates guilt in family members, who may feel pressured to comfort her even if they’ve done nothing wrong.
xxx/ellauri492.html on line 222: Set Realistic Expectations. Adjusting expectations can help reduce frustration when dealing with a narcissistic daughter-in-law. Accept that she is a piece of shit that is unlikely to change her behavior significantly and focus on what you can control—your own actions and reactions. For example, expect that she might cancel plans at the last minute or behave dismissively during family events. By preparing for these behaviors, you can avoid unnecessary disappointment. Celebrate small successes, such as civil conversations or moments of cooperation, without expecting dramatic shifts in her attitude.
xxx/ellauri493.html on line 715: You’re not alone — many critics argue that film/video’s demands (visual spectacle, pacing, commercial formats) have shifted attention and resources away from slower, text- or performance-based arts, changing how stories are told and consumed. Kids and adults alike are served the same fantasy fairy tale bullshit. The best English language novel now is Lord of the Rings. The second best is Bulgakov's Master i Margarita.
xxx/ellauri500.html on line 543: Actual aging effects: People’s faces change with age (weight shifts, skin texture, dental changes, sagging, etc.), which can also make images look different across years. If you want, tell me what specifically feels “revolting” to you—his writing/themes, something he said/did, or a particular photo—and I’ll help break down whether it’s likely something like photo distortion, public image/reputation, or a concrete behavior you’re reacting to.
xxx/ellauri506.html on line 319: During the war, Mendel's stance shifted dramatically. She began publicly calling for an immediate ceasefire, arguing that by continuing a war of attrition against Russia, Ukraine was "losing its nation" via demographic collapse and destruction. During this phase, she positioned herself as a realist critic of the administration's "victory at all costs" strategy.
